In the morning, I can see the signs.

Events involving Rex/Chase in his struggle to figure out who he is really.

In the morning, I can see the signs.

Chase had stayed true to his decision to sit in on Archer's shift at Murphy's Law, even if all he'd done was drink and throw the occasional peanut at him while he worked. It was just something that couldn't be helped after the first night, and after he'd remembered more about how things used to be. Though it was a little known fact to anyone else, it was impossible for him to be in a singular setting for too long without watching the on goings -- the betting at one of the tables, the cash switching hands here and there after a showing of cards -- all the way to the loners who kept to themselves in the booths at the far end. To most, it could have been an overload, what with profiling each and every one of them, along with their intentions.. but in the end, it was fine. And as for talking to Paddy? It completely slipped his mind until the very last of the regulars had left, and the cook was out the door as well. Another day, perhaps. After the excitement with the police - and calling in Mel and Maura earlier (despite the nap Archer had gotten to take) - Chase was more than ready to head back and crash out. ..If his brain would allow it.

Typically, he drank himself to sleep.. throw in a little weed, and he was good to go. This night, it was just the thin, paper-rolled herb that had him hazy enough to do so.. and crashing out was simple enough after he'd all but tossed his bag aside, kicked off his boots and dropped onto the bed.. scratched shoulder, be damned. And despite the truth-ridden dreams that would momentarily pull him back to reality, he was able to actually sleep for the most part. Right on until sunrise, at least, when he decided that it just wasn't worth letting his eyes roll closed again. Instead, he rolled over - shabby, messed up hair and all - and snared Archer, just to pull him in close as if he were some sort of large, lazy, cat. He didn't say a word though, and instead nuzzled down into the side of his neck with an array of light bites and kisses to wake him up, too. A little cruel, perhaps, but hey.. Chase was an ass. That much had been established way before then. That, and.. well.. how else was he going to wake him up?!

And if that wasn't enough, then to hell with it. Chase would just go still again, only this time, using Archer's shoulder as a rest for his chin while he plotted his next move. "Wake up.." Well, fuck, Chase. That was ever-so-sweet; the Cheshire grin was more than present, though. It was new, really. Waking up next to someone. He'd learn how it all worked, eventually.

Having Chase sitting in the bar while he worked was nice. Archer liked being able to look over and see him there. The peanut missiles were not an issue and hell, he started throwing them back. The regulars hadn't ever seen Archer so happy at work. There wasn't any out of the ordinary excitement either so that helped too. Paddy had left a nice reward for the guy who'd helped Archer out so Archer delivered that bundle of cash. It wasn't too much; just a couple of hundred. But still, it was something.

Sleeping was easy for Archer. The nap hadn't been enough to stave off exhaustion and when they got home, he stole a couple of hits from that joint while taking a few minutes to start flipping through the file Chase had brought. It shocked him and Archer felt a cold anger start to brew inside his gut. Archer used mundane tasks, like checking on the turtle, to try to calm himself. Between that and another couple hits he was finally able to fall asleep. He didn't even dream. Well, not that would recall in the morning. There were some dreams but they were short and disjointed and Quinn was a part of some of them, others were dark images of what he'd read in that file.

Typically Archer was a pretty light sleeper but with the activities the previous day and the weed at bedtime, he slept very soundly. That is until he felt himself being moved. Warmth around him, his lips moved in a sleep grin but he didn't let on that he was awake yet. He stayed relaxed through the bites and kisses although by the end he was starting to chuckle because the scruff on Chase's face tickled a bit. Only when Chase finally said 'Wake up' did Archer shift and roll over, blue eyes still tinged with sleep opening to look at Chase. "Mm..but sleep is gooooood." It was more a groan than anything else and ended on a laugh as he wrapped arms around Chase. "So is coffee, I suppose." The turkish place on the corner was almost sounding good. Almost. That would require getting out of bed and he wasn't ready to do that yet.

"Did you sleep?" He didn't go for 'did you sleep good' yet considering what he'd read. Archer knew he needed to read it all but at the moment he wasn't interested in reading more about what they'd done to Chase. It would be a safe bet that if he met up with any of those people in a dark alley, only one would be leaving the alley. He brushed fingertips along the curve of Chase's jaw. "You look like you slept some."

The chuckling gave it away, for sure, but only made him huff out a short laugh before Archer finally rolled over with his groaned statement about sleep. There was no denying that sleep was good. "Yeah, I know," he mumbled, and dropped back onto his side once Archer had wrapped his arms around him. The coffee comment made him smirk, but only because he'd considered it also-- and decided that he wasn't quite ready to get up and make the trip out that way just yet. "Coffee is fuckin' perfect.." he trailed quickly enough, just so he could nudge a few more lighter kisses to Archer's jawline, and summed it up with a nip just beneath his chin.

He knew full well that Archer had dipped into some of the file, and was intelligent enough to know that it would have bothered nearly anyone who read it, let alone someone who'd known him before it had all had taken place. Still, it was only a glimpse into the reality of it all. It was a lot different being on the inside, looking out, and was very well the cause of his oddities now; the undesirable reactions that went hand-in-hand with being startled, or.. just the simple factor of his hand being touched at the wrong moment in time. Still, in times like these he seemed very little affected by it, if at all. Did he sleep? "Li'l more'n usual." Which was an improvement, to say the very least.

Chase was quick to lean into the brush of fingers along his jaw, and then pushed up to prop himself up on an elbow. "Did you?" It was a legit question, wasn't it? Especially given the first night he'd stayed, Archer had been up earlier than he himself had, and had mentioned that he'd dreamed about things that hadn't really happened, but .. were .. in the dream. "I jus' decided I couldn't sleep anymore.. 'n had to bug you 'cause of it. Shit happens." Cue the smirk that only lasted a quarter of a second before he glanced off to the side. It was partially true, at least. Had he been smacked away or something equally as hilarious, it'd be an entirely different story.

Still, he was making no move to drag either of them out of bed. He'd stay in the lazy cat mode as long as it was allowed. In fact, he dropped his head right back down on the pillow and pulled Archer back in against him, close, and as if mocking sleep.. closed his eyes back, in spite of the faint hint of a grin that would've given him away, tenfold, if it was noticed.

"We need to find a coffee place that delivers." He was only partially joking with that comment. But even so, that would require getting out of bed and at the moment that was simply unacceptable. "Good. You needed it. You really looked like shit the other night." Not that he hadn't said something similiar before but hey, it bore repeating. A faint smile tugged at his lips when Chase nuzzled into the fingers against his jaw. That simple little expression was more important than anything else. It was something that came from deep inside Chase where Chase was still Chase and not this 'Rex'. It gave Archer some hope that there could be a good future for Chase. And who was he kidding? He wanted to be in that future.

"Yeah, I slept pretty good." He just was being lazy about getting out of bed. "You can bug me anytime. If I don't like it, I'll hit you with my pillow." And that was no joke although being hit with the pillow probably wouldn't deter Chase much at all. His turn to move when Chase laid his head back down. Archer propped his head on his fist, elbow on the bed and his other hand on Chase's chest. He drummed his fingers lightly. "I want to find out about Boss' place. Did you see that guys face when I mentioned his name? I think your detective friend doesn't like Boss." Understatement probably but Archer didn't care. He made a wrinkle nosed expression and added. "I hope that isn't going to end up being a problem."

Not if you had a cellphone, which he did, no matter how busted up the damn thing had gotten over the past month or so. It came from being repeatedly disassembled, and not at all carefully in certain situations. "Don't guess we could pay 'im to deliver, huh.." he trailed, rather graveled. Of course getting out of bed was completely out of the question. It wasn't often at all that Chase dozed around; it was always straight up, and to it; whatever it was, that day. And like Archer said, he did need sleep -- it had gotten to a dire sort of point.. though, he could honestly say he hadn't started hallucinating from sleep deprivation.

And believe it or not, there was a huge conversation coming, concerning the whole Chase VS Rex mix-up. Be it apparent or not, he'd done a lot of thinking over the past couple of days -- comparing, really. Realizing. It didn't take a rocket scientist to realize that Rex was a truly and entirely false persona; even if he had known and interacted with people while being that person-- it didn't fit. He liked - even if he couldn't have his life back the way it was - at the very least, having his true name. It'd just be pretty damn hard to explain the death certificate..

"Good," he said in concern to Archer sleeping pretty good, and wasn't at all blaming him about being lazy. Not when he himself had practically started it by waking him up in the first place. "..Your pillow??" he grumbled, doing his best not to smirk or even open his eyes. "I'd prob'ly try to hit me with th'entire bed or somethin'. I don' know. Somethin' that'd actually do somethin'," he teased. "Your call, though." Though, once those fingers were drumming against his chest, he arched into a stretch that eventually landed one arm tucked beneath his skull, and his head was angled so he could watch up at Archer as he spoke.

"Mel knows lots'a people. S'why I figured it'd be good t'call 'im in. Make sure nothin' happened to th'place, or th'car.." Favors, indeed. As far as the detective liking Boss? That was beyond his knowing, but he was sure they'd find out eventually-- one way or another. He had ways that didn't necessarily involve asking either party involved. "Nothin's gonna end up bein' a problem. You c'n count on that, y'know." Another stretch, and that time he successfully managed to realign his spine by a trio of pops before he went down again just for a brief moment before, all at once, he sat up. His other arm stayed around Archer though, which would comically - but effectively! - pull him up with him when he went. "C'mon.. le's get ready 'n go check 'em out." The place, Boss -- but first, the Turkish coffee shop.
