If we went about it the way I would've, had anyone been interested.. I'd based it off the current year as when the final war broke out. Thus, in this case, it'd be 2013 when it started. Five years after that, while everything was in shambles, an endemic broke out that was turning people who'd been exposed to certain chemicals (think chemical warfare) into zombies. [I'll get more into this in a moment.]
25 years later, the war is long since over. This would make it 2038 that the scene was taking place. The government is trying to restore order, and the scientists are all flipping shit while trying to figure out how to get the planet "back to good" while at the very same time battling those infected. Not to mention their offspring, and the corpses that, quite literally, just raised from their graves to walk the Earth once more.
There are no cities, only sectors. 1 through 9, dividing the United States. There are outposts set up here and there, save for Chicago and Philadelphia which are nothing more than huge craters full of radioactivity (and rumored to be where most of the infected dwell. There's underground bases, and those are the only places that LEGALLY (even with the fall of government as mankind knew it) have power grids, and communication with other bases. Some select outposts would have power, but if it were ever found out, it'd be shut off-- because, who wants control the most? The government.
Rebels, brutes, mutants, zombies. They're all in the mix; those who weren't turned, and were somehow untouched by the endemic, continue to fight on -- the rogues, such as what my character is, stay unseen by the government and outposts due to the knowledge that they'd be swiped up and used as an experiment, so to say, in order to TRY to find a cure for those infected.
... Feel free to add on. This is just off the top of my head since I have nothing written down anymore.

I've done different versions of post-war stuff. Some with just society getting back on its feet, some with other worlds where there was technology fading but monsters on the rise, some with basic 'wake up one day and everyone is gone except the ones who want to eat you' settings.
I'm flexible.

Well. The ones I'm more familiar with is where everything is just in complete shambles, though they're working on restoring it; even if its just a lot of the renegades and rogues doing so, and not the government. Who knows? Maybe the government, in this case, doesn't want to fix it.
Population control; dwindling the numbers of man kind, and thus are only determined to find a way to end the mutants/zombies from taking over, when it's all said and done.
I mean.. it's really kind of endless, if you're flexible.. lol.
And I even have an idea to add in there, that I'll discuss with you in IMs. >)

[color=#FF4000]1) As Rhi already knows my 'night time' activity is limited to two days a week, and or if I'm willing to go with minimal sleep just because I'm up at the butt hole of dawn (because ass crack is later then when I wake up) so if I don't respond in the evening I'll probably respond the next afternoon (when I get hommme from the butt crack of dawn shift!)
I'm game, though I can't promise any competence. I very rarely branch out of my modern realism / modern fantasy (think of authors like Hamilton, Briggs, McGuire).
I did a post-apocalyptic / start of zombie type thingie via silent hill back in the day.
Though I'd say if I ever did post-apoc type setting, I'd be more interested in the rebuild phase of civilization. Minimal population walking the earth (or maybe just a continent got hit), very little help from the outside / and or governments because I'm sure by that time that's almost none existent. YES Zombies are trying to kill me, or you know *insert random travesties of the apocalypse* but I'm going to go vote for a governor.
Though, I'd assume if something like that ever did happen ... governments would just ... ya know ... not worry about things like campaigning. Oy. I'm rambling.
Or. Perhaps just a couple of years into it, everything still crazy insane, people are still adjusting, still pockets of actual civilization out there. Tra-la-la.
Anyway. My thoughts. Nothing exciting for the moment.

Nah, that's the kind of feedback we're looking for. What others want to see in it, so the ramble-musing is fine.
It would more than most likely, if I'm on key with my counterpart here -nudgeArcher-, civilization would still be in the midst of trying to rebuild. Even if the government wasn't taking too much part in it, because they're already settled nice and cozy in their underground cities, bases, and what have you.
The rebels, wanderers, and rogues (which are the ones that I'm more interested in playing) would be striving to get back on track; probably using a different item for currency, instead of say.. money. Bottle caps, jewelry, and just all out bartering to get their needs and necessities to survive. This would also include scavengers collecting, and bringing it in bulk to the outposts to trade as need be.
And yes, zombies, mutants, and other disfigured creatures and abominations would be creeping up right along behind you at any given moment trying to eat you. Fun times, man. Fun. Times.
